Global Voices reports that at least two U.S. technology companies are set to comply with Russia’s controversial data localization law. Last week, the RBC news agency reported Google allegedly agreed to comply with the law and has moved some data storage facilities within Russian borders. On April 7, Russian news source Kommersant reported that eBay is also taking similar steps. According to a translation, Russian eBay representative Vladimir Dolgov said, “The main purpose (of the meeting) for eBay was to receive answers about aspects of the data retention law that comes into effect on September 1, 2015. After the meeting eBay confirms its willingness to collect and store required information in full accordance with the law.”
