The Wall Street Journal reports on the creative tactics Big Tech companies are using to collect personal data for targeted advertising purposes. The creativity is in response to compliance with various collection or tracking limits in place through various regulations around the world and Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. In lieu of tracking, companies are attempting to build detailed customer profiles on their own through user participation in loyalty programs, sweepstakes, newsletters, quizzes, polls and QR codes.
