On March 15, French data protection authority, the CNIL, released a six-step methodology for businesses to prepare for the General Data Protection Regulation, Hunton & Williams' Privacy & Information Security Law Blog reports. The six steps include appointing a data protection officer, identifying all of their data processing activities, making sure to prioritize their compliance actions, carrying out privacy impact assessments to manage any risks, organizing internal processes to ensure data is protected at all times, and keeping documentation on all compliance measures. Such documentation would include a register of data processing activities, privacy notices, data transfer mechanisms, consent forms, and internal procedures if a data breach occurs.
