France’s data protection authority, the CNIL, has released figures on the number of reported data breaches since the EU General Data Protection Regulation went into effect, Hunton Andrews Kurth's Privacy & Information Security Law Blog reports. Between May 25 and Oct. 1, 742 data breaches were reported to the CNIL that impacted 33,727,384 people in France and other countries. Of the reported breaches, 421 were the result of phishing schemes and attacks on software. The CNIL notes in its report it will aggressively penalize any company found to have violated the GDPR’s data breach notification requirements.
