In preparation for European Parliament and municipal elections, France’s data protection authority, the CNIL, announced it has updated recommendations and good practices related to voter personal data. The lists will continue to be updated throughout the coming year, while the CNIL also republished fact sheets on voter rights and political communication, both by email and phone. The CNIL is also providing voters the opportunity to elaborate on their experience and offer feedback on best practices related to ensuring the security of voter data. European Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli also released a statement explaining that data protection "underpins the democratic process and trust in our institutions by ensuring safe and secure voting and respect for individual rights."
