The president of France’s data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, warned lawmakers against using facial recognition as a security precaution during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Politico reports. Use of AI-powered cameras is planned to ensure visitor safety during the event, but CNIL President Marie-Laure Denis said "members of the CNIL's college call on parliamentarians not to introduce facial recognition, that is to say the identification of people on the fly in the public space."
