The French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) has ordered Google to bring its privacy protections in line with French data protection law within three months or face fines, The Wall Street Journal reports. The authority wants the company to comply with six requirements, including rules on data retention. A Google spokesman said the company’s privacy policy “respects European law” and noted the company has cooperated with the authority during the inquiry, which has lasted a year.
