France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, released guidance regarding data of deceased individuals. “In the same way that we talk about managing our life online, it is logical to wonder about the fate of our data after our death,” the CNIL stated. The guidance includes how to handle social networking profiles of the deceased, when the processing of their data causes damage, and whether heirs and relatives can access or delete online accounts.
