The U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority says a new regulator may be needed to monitor the "growing power of digital platforms," the Financial Times reports. The CMA launched an investigation into how online platforms use data to boost advertising revenue and market power. The competition authority is also considering a number of measures designed to increase consumer protection, such as a block on tech giants from sharing user data between apps. The CMA is also expected to review proposals for a new regulatory body with powers of enforcement. The CMA is seeking comments through July 30 and expects to publish a final report next year.
