Government entities lack the resources and expertise needed to keep pace with the velocity of cybersecurity threats, Nextgov reports. It is expected that nearly 20 billion internet-of-things devices will be installed in 2020 — three times the number in 2016. As more and more products are becoming “smart” and with an improved tradecraft of hackers, new and persistent cybersecurity challenges for public- and private-sector organizations alike emerge around the globe, according to the report. Meanwhile, Government Technology reports that the Oregon Department of Human Services is increasing its cybersecurity more than six months after employees clicked phishing emails that exposed the information of 645,000 residents. In June, the department added a “think twice” notice to all external emails to remind staff to be vigilant.
