Clearview AI has subpoenaed advocacy groups for internal documents, including correspondence with journalists about the facial recognition company and information uncovered about the company and its founders, Politico reports. Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law Counsel and Senior Fellow for Privacy and Technology David Brody said the subpoenas could be seen as an attempt to “silence critics,” which he called “pretty problematic.” Clearview AI’s attorney Andrew Lichtman said the action was taken related to the company’s defense “in multi-district litigation.”
