German lawmakers have approved a law that some argue will increase oversight of the country's spy agency, Bundesnachrichtendienst, including a clause that allows the BND to "intercept communications of foreign entities and individuals on German soil and abroad," Reuters reports. While proponents of the law argue the clause helps find terrorists, critics counter that national security need not hamper individual rights. "Our constitution, basic and human rights laws are not an obstacle to the fight against terrorism," said lawmaker Konstantin von Notz. Representatives from Germany's Green Party have threatened to petition Germany's highest court and the European Court of Justice to strike the reform, "saying it infringes on Germans' right to privacy," the report states.
