Following UCLA Health’s admission last week that it had been hit by a massive data breach in May, a former patient has filed a class-action lawsuit in U.S. District Court claiming the health system broke its contractual obligations to protect patients’ data, ConsumerAffairs reports. Allen filed the suit on behalf of “several millions of individuals,” the report states, claiming personal data entrusted to the hospital was “left in an unencrypted state and stolen by cyber thieves.” Meanwhile, in an op-ed on The Hill’s Congress Blog, attorney Karla Grossenbacher makes the case for a single, federal standard on data breach notification.
