Reuters reports Court of Justice of the European Union Advocate General Richard de la Tour released an opinion supporting consumer protection associations bringing representative actions over alleged EU General Data Protection Regulation violations. According to de la Tour, associations are "particularly suited" to offer representative defense in order to maintain GDPR rights. Additionally, de la Tour believes consumer groups may also bring actions without existing claims or data subject consent, but those instances are left to the discretion of relevant authorities and courts in EU member states.
