Bloomberg reports China's Ministry of Industry Information Technology ordered 25 companies, including Chinese-based Big Tech companies Alibaba and Tencent, to tighten data security and consumer protection. Companies were instructed to address eight areas to improve including data collection and storage. At the first of two recent meetings, the ministry asked companies to work toward the establishment of data security management systems and appoint personnel to maintain the systems, while stressing further oversight over data exportation.
