China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published a new policy calling on automobile manufacturers to increase their data protection efforts, Reuters reports. The policy asks automakers to obtain regulatory approval before exporting data and updating in-car systems. While companies are asked to follow the new rules, the ministry has not outlined any punishment for noncompliance.
