While Dandan Fan, who scored 773 out of 800, sees no ill effect of constant surveillance and social ranking, Investigative Reporter Liu Hu warns of the negative impact this has for people’s careers and lives. Hu, who describes himself as an enemy of the state, found himself blacklisted as “dishonest” under the pilot system. Believing his low social credit standing is politically driven, he has tried to appeal his blacklisting but has had no success.
