Big data will soon play a major role in Chinese health care, as the country plans to release a new medical service model through a partnership with the internet industry, China Daily reports. Government-issued documents detail China’s goal to create a big data system by 2020, including an interconnected public health information platform. "The initiative won't just help improve related public health services, but will also play a big role in economic and social development, said National Health and Family Planning Commission’s Vice-Minister Jin Xiaotao. Chinese Academy of Engineering’s Li Lanjuan said China will have the world’s largest pool of health data by 2020, covering more than 1.4 billion people. "Assessment of data helps authorities devise more targeted disease prevention and health management plans," Lanjuan said.
