Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang denied his government was behind the 2017 Equifax data breach, which four members of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army were charged with by the U.S. Department of Justice this week, The Associated Press reports. China is committed to “firmly oppose and combat cyberattacks of any kind,” Shuang said, adding it does not “engage in cybertheft of trade secrets.” Shuang instead accused the U.S. of engaging in “large-scale, organized and indiscriminate cyberstealing, spying and surveillance activities on foreign governments, enterprises and individuals.”
