South China Morning Post reports on Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner Allan Chiang's recent enforcement notices, including those to 48 advertisers using “blind ads.” Chiang warned recruiters to follow the law when placing ads, noting, “A blind ad only demonstrates the company’s ignorance of the law and a disrespect for privacy and data protection.” According to Chiang, most violators are small- to medium-sized businesses. Chiang highlighted some more extreme cases in which genetic and biometric data were collected by organisations, noting “less intrusive measures” could have been taken. Offenders that fail to comply with a notice can be fined up to $50,000.
