The Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation and the Royal United Services Institute have launched a research initiative on possible biases within algorithms used by law enforcement, ComputerWeekly reports. RUSI will publish its initial research in September, which will be used by CDEI to develop a code of practice for trialing algorithms. CDEI will release a final report on its findings in March 2020, when it will also offer recommendations to the U.K. government. The two groups hosted a series of roundtables in July where police departments, civil society organizations, academics, lawmakers and trade associations discussed the use of algorithms and how the regulatory environment can be improved.
