The Washington Post reports on the lobbying battle between tech companies and privacy advocates over the California Consumer Privacy Act. At a CCPA public forum hosted by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, representatives from the California Chamber of Commerce said the law does not work in its current form. “We’re not rolling back rights; we’re trying to make things work,” CalChamber Policy Advocate Sarah Boot said. Advocates are concerned tech lobbyists will use their large amount of resources to impact the CCPA. “There’s going to be a fight here to weaken it,” said Mary Stone Ross, who was partly responsible for the original state ballot initiative. “You name the companies and their trade associations, and there’s no way [advocates] can hold a candle to that.” (Registration may be required to access this story.) Editor's Note: Lothar Determann covered the first CCPA public forum in this piece for Privacy Perspectives.
