The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has filed a lawsuit against all three levels of the Canadian government over the Waterfront Toronto smart-city project, Motherboard reports. The CCLA seeks court orders to terminate the agreement between Sidewalk Labs and Waterfront Toronto. The group has also pushed for a declaration that states Waterfront Toronto, Ontario and the Canadian federal government violated citizens’ privacy rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. "Sidewalk Labs fully supports a robust and healthy discussion regarding privacy, data ownership and governance," Sidewalk Spokesperson Keerthana Rang said via email. "We look forward to submitting our proposal to Waterfront Toronto and to continuing to work with Torontonians to get this right."
