The Canadian government will place a priority on strengthening the country’s privacy laws according to the Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry Navdeep Bains, The Globe and Mail reports. The proposed changes have been called a digital charter by the government and include increased fines for violating the law and empowering the privacy commissioner to investigate and audit companies. “This is a key priority for Minister Bains as we move forward in the digital era,” Spokeswoman Dani Keenan said, adding proposed changes include “meaningful penalties for violations.”
