CBC News reports more than 4,000 websites, emails and applications posing as Canadian government entities have been identified and deleted over consumer protection concerns. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security removed the fraudulent accounts in recent months due to potential efforts to steal personal data or money from individuals. CCCS Spokesman Evan Koronewski said the impersonators aimed to "deliver fake COVID-19 exposure notification applications, designed to install malware on users devices."
