The Canadian Civil Liberties Association submitted its testimony on Bill C-27, the Digital Charter Implementation Act, to Parliament's Standing Committee on Industry and Technology. The CCLA said the bill "inappropriately frames people's privacy rights as something to be balanced against and placed below commercial interests," and advocated for amendments strengthening Canadian citizens' privacy rights. On the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act, contained within C-27, the CCLA said it "fails to capture the complexity of the harms and risks that AI can bring to bear on individuals, communities, and their fundamental rights."
