A spokesperson for the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee confirmed the panel plans to call former Cambridge Analytica Contractor Aleksandr Kogan to testify at a hearing held next week on data privacy risks, Reuters reports. The panel’s subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security will focus the hearing on Cambridge Analytica and other Facebook partners. John Battelle, who helped found Wired Magazine and is a board member of database marketing company Acxiom, and Ashkan Soltani, who was the Federal Trade Commission’s chief technologist during President Barack Obama’s administration, are also set to appear. Meanwhile, new research from Oxford University's Reuters Institute found the use of Facebook for news consumption in the U.S. dropped 9 percent overall from 2017 to 2018 and 20 percent among younger groups.
