The Electronic Frontier Foundation joined 15 privacy organizations in urging California state legislators to uphold and improve the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018. The organizations state that as industry leaders push for reducing the protections of the law, lawmakers should defend the CCPA. In a letter to state lawmakers, they write, “California can and should continue to lead on consumer protection, as it has for decades, with robust, thoughtful legislation that puts people first,” and add, “We urge you to keep the focus on strengthening protections for your constituents, and to reject efforts to diminish Californians’ privacy and security protections.”
