As the use and deployment of artificial intelligence and automated systems continues to grow, more industry- and academic-based initiatives are under way to ensure privacy and ethics are built into such systems. One such initiative has been undertaken by the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in the Design of Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems. Last week, the IEEE Global Initiative released a version of its working reference. Sony PlayStation Privacy and Data Counsel Ariel Brio, CIPP/US, took part in the process and contributed to information privacy needs in the Personal Data and Individual Access Control Committee. In this exclusive for Privacy Tech, Brio discusses the privacy issues and solutions that can be built into AI and automated systems. "The hope is," he explains, "that through continued dialogue, public engagement, and the IEEE Standards Process, these concerns and potential solutions can be developed into operational use."
