In an interview with Nextgov, Federal Trade Commissioner Julie Brill says she thinks in the next five years everyone will have so many devices interacting with the Internet that the line between online and offline will cease to exist. That’s going to present challenges. “I think the concept of providing consumers with notice and choice and giving them some kind of understanding about how their data is going to be collected and used will become much more complex,” she said. Brill also said she’d like to see “more significant protections for health information” and other sensitive data that flows outside of sector-specific privacy laws.
