New data from Saskatoon Health Region reveals there has been a 50 percent increase in the number of data breaches and privacy complaints, Global News reports. The latest data was collected during the course of the last fiscal year. Lori Frank, the region's enterprise risk management director, said the increase can be attributed to more awareness. "I think both our staff, physicians and general public are becoming more aware of what a privacy breach or privacy concern is ... people are becoming more astute about what privacy means to them as health care consumers," she added.
