“Bots are nothing new. They’ve been around for a while and they’re certainly not going away,” Jedidiah Bracy, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, writes in his latest post for Privacy Perspectives. “But as we continuously socialize ourselves online, the creep factor inches forward.” Bracy takes a closer look at examples of creepy and not-so-creepy bots on the Internet, including spambots that recently hit Instagram. He suggests “we’re going to be seeing more of these increasingly intelligent artificial intelligences, and as businesses continue to utilize automated services, privacy pros will have a role to play in making sure that social norms and privacy expectations aren’t violated or ignored, both by the business using the services, or the bad actors trying to manipulate them.”
