A programmer has created a bot that looks at publicly available data on Venmo transactions and tweets out the usernames and photos of individuals who have used a drug keyword or emoji in the transaction, Motherboard reports. Joel Guerra, the creator of the "Who's buying drugs on Venmo" bot, said he "wanted to demonstrate how much data Venmo was making publicly available with their open API and their public by default settings and encourage people to consider their privacy settings." The report notes the bot raises questions about whether users are fully aware of the amount of data they expose on the app and the ways publicly available data can be aggregated and used.
