Presearch, a pro-privacy blockchain startup, is one of the many small companies working to challenge traditional big tech, TechCrunch reports. Founded in 2017 and with 1 million users, Presearch incentivizes using its smaller, localized search platform by offering cryptocurrency to those who use its search engine. Presearch takes aim at making searches wider and more broad instead of targeting audiences based on what tech giants want users to see. “We’re really trying to give them more of a platform that a lot of these different providers — including DuckDuckGo, Qwant — could get behind to basically break that Google dependency and make it easier for them to have a direct relationship with [their] audience,” Presearch Co-Founder Colin Pape said.
