Senator Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, have proposed a bill that would require a warrant to review communications involving an American collected under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, The Washington Post reports. While it is reported that the bill “stands little chance of passage,” it is the fifth piece of litigation introduced to propose restricting the data-gathering capability of the NSA under Section 702, which currently allows the agency to collect communications from foreigners abroad. Lee said, “This bill implements some much needed reforms to our surveillance laws that will better protect law-abiding Americans’ privacy in a manner consistent with the Fourth Amendment."
