Reuters reports five members of U.S. Congress called for federal privacy legislation in the wake of reports on alleged efforts to lobby against comprehensive privacy bills in 25 states. U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., along with U.S. Reps. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., and Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., reacted to previous reporting from Reuters alleging Amazon worked to halt or water down state privacy bills. Regarding the lobbying, Schakowsky said Congress "is not convinced nor are we intimidated." The calls also resurface as Wired reports on allegations of wide-ranging personal data mishandling by Amazon.
