Big Brother Watch is calling for regulation and transparency around algorithms designed to target benefit claimants, BBC News reports. Reviewing data of more than 400 local authorities and council-owned housing associations in England, Scotland and Wales, the advocacy group found one in four reported using automated tools within the past three years to assist benefit claims, while 55% reported using them currently. The group raised concerns the technology could discriminate against certain populations and breach data protection laws.
