German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Ulrich Kelber notes “several shortcomings” in a draft law that would enable intelligence services to monitor messenger services. Kelber called for a moratorium on security law and an independent analysis of existing laws. “The courts have shown a clear need for reform in the laws of the intelligence services. Instead of tackling these urgent reforms, new monitoring options are to be created,” he said.
