In its Annual Report, Belgium's Data Protection Authority called 2021 a record year, with requests for advice rising 87% and complaints up 181% over 2020. A 2021 Facebook data breach contributed to the unprecedented 1,928 complaints received throughout the year, with a total of 1,120 stemming from the breach. The COVID-19 pandemic also dominated the year with enforcement-related decisions and data processing guidance issued, the DPA said.
