As more comes out on their data collection practices, Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario Brian Beamish seeks legislative changes to give his office authority over political parties, The Canadian Press reports. Beamish said placing political parties under privacy laws would address concerns related to the ways political parties gather and use personal data. “Updating our access and privacy laws is long overdue and necessary if they are to remain relevant and in line with the information age,” Beamish said in a statement.
