A report by British Columbia Information and Privacy Commissioner Michael McEvoy said the government regularly undermines citizens’ rights by delaying requests for information, The Peterborough Examiner reports. “Government has chosen to ignore the rules,” McEvoy said, which, according to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, require a response within 30 days or an extension approved by the commissioner. McEvoy said his office reviewed 4,000 cases in which response time was illegally extended.
