Two banks have sued Trustwave Holdings, the company that validated Target’s compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Computerworld reports. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Chicago, also includes Target and seeks class-action status, accusing both companies of negligence, deceptive practices and misrepresentation. Suing a PCI auditor is a rare move, the report states. It has also been confirmed that the Federal Trade Commission is investigating the Target breach. In Tuesday’s Senate Commerce Committee hearing on data breaches and cybersecurity—which included a Target representative—Commerce Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) said Snapchat’s refusal to take part in the hearings indicates that it was “hiding something.” Meanwhile, Network World reports on how the FBI and Secret Service know a company’s network has been breached before the company does.
