Axon, formerly Taser International, has offered police departments the free use of their body cameras for one year in an act seen as advancing the company's artificial intelligence business, the International Business Times reports. While the move raises the visibility of Axon's police body camera and its associated cloud video storage platform, the offer will also allow the company to inherit more data to build out its video analytics and computer vision business. Axon also announced the hiring of Mojtaba Solgi, a former Uber artificial intelligence specialist, to lead their artificial intelligence research division. Both moves have raised some privacy concerns. "This marriage of analytics with the vast amount of video being collected is an immense threat to privacy," American Civil Liberties Union Senior Policy Analyst Jay Stanley said.
