More than 5 million users were exposed in a data breach involving avatar-creator app Boomoji, TechCrunch reports. The China-based app developer exposed users’ personal data after failing to password protect two internet-facing databases, one based in the U.S. and the other based in Hong Kong. Exposed data included usernames, genders, countries and phone types, as well as unique Boomoji IDs, which were linked to additional information, including the precise geolocation for more than 375,000 users. The report states that Boomoji has since pulled the two databases offline. “These two accounts were made by us for testing purposes,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement.
