Fast-food chain Tim Hortons’ mobile application tracked and recorded users’ movements every few minutes of every day, everywhere they went, even when the app was not in use. This according to a joint investigation by federal and provincial Canadian privacy authorities, which they said points to the need for privacy reform. During a press conference, authorities discussed the lack of a monetary fine in the case and called for stronger privacy regulations with effective penalties, IAPP Staff Writer Jennifer Bryant reports.
