The Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer law firm blog picked up an Austrian paper's story on the first EU General Data Protection Regulation fine issued by Austria's data protection authority, against a retail establishment with a surveillance camera capturing too much of the sidewalk. The Austrian DPA fined the company 4,800 euros for monitoring a public space without proper transparency and notice. In related news, the Austrians currently have at least 115 fine proceedings pending and have initiated 58 ex officio investigations. Editor's Note: Austrian DPA and EDPB Chair Andrea Jelinek will keynote the IAPP Data Protection Congress, in Brussels, this November.
