Australian retailers Bunnings and Kmart halted use of facial recognition in their stores, the Guardian reports. Following a complaint by a consumer advocacy group, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner opened an investigation into the use of the technology by the two companies. Bunnings and Kmart claimed the tech was used to protect customers and employees from banned customers and to prevent theft.
