Australia's House of Representatives held readings on proposed amendments to surveillance legislation that would give enhanced powers to the Australian Federal Police and Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission. The bill would introduce “data disruption warrants” enabling the AFP and ACIC to disrupt criminal activity online, “network activity warrants” giving the authorities power to collect intelligence on criminal networks operating online, and “account takeover warrants” allowing them to take control of a person’s online account to gather evidence.
