CBS News reports the computer systems belonging to the city of Atlanta have been compromised by ransomware. Hackers sent a letter saying they have encrypted files found on several city computer systems and are demanding payment in bitcoin in order to release the information. Several computer systems went down during the attack, with online bill paying services and law enforcement data becoming unavailable. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Microsoft and Cisco Security are offering their assistance.
