In an op-ed for the Times of India, Trilegal Partner Rahul Mantthan and MediaNama Founder Nikhil Pahwa offer their thoughts and predictions for the country's Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019. While he believes the law is not perfect, Mantthan said the bill is good enough to give the country a privacy law it needs. Pahwa believes the law will face early challenges. "There is bound to be a strong challenge to the most egregious of the bill’s provisions: the wholesale exemptions given to the Indian government to access the personal data of citizens," Pahwa writes.
